Recreation - Kennebunkport, Kennebunk, Kennebunk Beach
The Kennebunks offer year round recreational opportunities for everyone. Local outdoor activities include beaches, swimming, boating, biking, fishing, golf, tennis, hunting, cross country skiing, and ice skating. Both Kennebunk and Kennebunkport have fabulous sandy beaches.
Beaches: Mothers Beach, Kennebunk Beach (aka Gooches Beach), Middle Beach, Parsons Beach, Colony Beach, Cleaves Cove Beach and Goose Rocks Beach are some of the most popular beaches in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport.
Swimming: In addition to swimming at area beaches, there is indoor swimming at the Rhumb Line Resort and Village Cove Inn in Kennebunkport, plus Quest Fitness in Kennebunk and the YMCA in Biddeford offer indoor pools.
Boating: There are several marinas located on the Kennebunk River. Lobster Boat Tours, Whale watching excursions and schooner tours are offered several times a day in season. There are canoe and kayak rentals on the river, two yacht clubs and there is even a local boat club.
Tennis: Public courts are available to residents at several locations including at Kennebunk High School, Park Street and Beachwood courts. Edgecomb in Kennebunk and the River Club in Kennebunkport are both excellent private clubs.
Golf: There are three 18 hole courses in the Kennebunks: Cape Arundel Golf Course in Kennebunkport, Webhannet in Kennebunk Beach, and Dutch Elm in Arundel. Plus there are eight other courses less than 30 minutes from the Kennebunks including: Old Marsh Country Club and Merriland Farm in Wells, Cape Neddick Golf Course on Shore Road in Cape Neddick, The Ledges in nearby York, The Links at Outlook in Berwick, Sanford Golf Course are 20 minutes to our west. Biddeford/Saco Country Club Golf in Saco and Dunegrass at Old Orchard Beach Country Club are 20 minutes to our north. Plus there is the Hillcrest Golf Driving Range and Mini Par 3 Pitch & Putt right in Kennebunk Lower Village.
Bird Watching & Hiking: There are numerous opportunities to hike and view Maine's varied bird life along the shore or inland on Kennebunk Land Trust trails, at Laudholm Farm, The Wells National Estuarine Sanctuary, or at the Rachel Carson Wildlife Reserve.
Skiing: There are several major Alpine Ski Areas less than 2 hours from the Kennebunks including Sunday River, Shawnee Peak, Mt. Abram in Maine and Gunstock, Mt Cranmore, Wildcat and Attitash in nearby New Hampshire. There is cross-country skiing available on area golf courses, The Bridal Path in Kennebunk, Laudholm Farm in Wells, and on groomed trails at Harris Farm Cross Country Center 25 minutes west, or at most all of the major alpine ski resorts.
Parks & Recreation: The Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Parks & Recreation Departments offer a wide variety of programs for children, adults and seniors.
K.B.I.A.: The Kennebunk Beach Improvement Association is a nonprofit organization offering activities for children ages 3-15.
